Pediatric Ophthalmology For The 21st Century: Pediatric Eye & Vision Issues For Ukraine in 2006

Presented August 30, 2006 by Monte Mills, MD. Director, Division of Ophthalmology at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. This was done in live interactive teleconference session connecting Philadelphia CHOP and multiple hospital / office sites in Ukraine and a large audience of physicians at the biennial World Federation of Ukraine Medical Associations XIth Clinical Congress at the Poltava (Ukraine) Medical Academy. 1st ACITA September 25-28

In support of the joint US Dept. of Defense/UK Min.of Defence 1st Annual Conference of International Technology Alliance and lead contractor IBM Research Center (ACITA), which is a long-term consortium of major US & UK universities, research institutes, contractors and agencies in network and information science research, during Sept. 25-28, 2007 at U. of Maryland Conference Center, we produced:

• Interactive indexed by author/topic/field CD of 70+ ITA technical papers & posters

• Live interactive multi-agency Stakeholders' Meeting between US & UK sites with presentations & roundtable discussion with multiple high-end cameras & triple audio feeds per mixer via TCP/IP

• High-end multi-cameras & audio feeds for different large room sites of multiple simultaneous webcasts of Plenary, Panel, Technology Transition & Technical Sessions (2-4 hours per session each) over 3 days - 20+ hrs of programming.


The primary US DoD agency leading & coordinating this effort is the Army Research Lab (ARL). The focus is network centric systems research [www.usukita.org]. Led by our medical content & development affiliate, International Medical Programs, Inc. we coordinated, participated in & supported Ukraine’s largest medical school complex - Zaporozhye State Medical University’s Live Interactive Medical Education E-Seminar.


February 7, 2007

Led by our medical content & development affiliate, International Medical Programs, Inc., from, and in conjunction with, Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC, we coordinated and executed the Mereja Likariv 3rd annual international eGrandRounds program on behalf of Roxolana Horbowyj, MD, FACS under her direction.  This live interactive academic conference on selected topics in cardiology linked 21 rural and urban sites in Ukraine (16), the United States (4), and Slovakia (1). Physician-specialists in adult and pediatric cardiology, internal medicine, general / family practice, surgery and intensive care participated.


August 30, 2006

First international web-conference of the World Federation of Ukrainian Medical Associations, beginning at 0600 EST / 1300 Ukraine; connecting Poltava & Vinnytsya, Ukraine, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and multiple other hospital sites in the Ukraine. Topics include etinopathy of pre maturity and pediatric cataracts, potential infectious etiologies of childhood blindness in Ukraine, clinical updates on retinoblastoma, and ultrasound findings on portal vein hypertension by Drs. Monte Mills, Pavlo Kyrychenko, Christin L. Sylvester, and Oksana H. Baltarowich, respectively.

International Medical Programs, Inc. (and its affiliate ICoDE Systems, LLC) make an in-person presentation to the 11th Annual World Federation of Ukrainian Medical Associations (WFUMA) Congress held in Poltava, Ukraine.


August 16, 2006

Live Interactive Collaboration Demonstration (LICD) at the Friends of Ukraine Radiology Conference linking a university setting in Philadelphia and annex site in New York City in the USA with the main conference site in Lviv, as well as a remote rural hospital in Pidhaytsi in Ukraine, brought together over 500 participants. Topics for live presentation, interactive participation and dialogue were: - Diagnostic Ultrasound in Breast Care by Roxolana Horbowyj, MD, FACS, National Naval Medical Center, Breast Center, Bethesda, MD and - Ultrasound Evaluation of Gastrointestinal Causes of Right Lower Quadrant Pain by Oksana Baltarowich, MD, Jefferson Ultrasound Institute, Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, PA.
